about
MY LADDER OF SUCCESS
My path through motorsport was really mapped out by my father, (multiple World Super Kart Champion Martin) Hines. Over the years his famous Zip Young Guns team has seen the likes of D.C. Jason Plato, Anthony Davidson, Gary Paffett, Lewis Hamilton the list goes on and on, so I guess I was in a pretty fortunate position as far as doing the right thing was concerned.
It was of course Cadet first - fantastic, great, exciting, the best three years of my racing career to date. My very first kart was a Zip CD05 which I found was an excellent kart. I guess the equivilent now would be the Zip Puma which took the first 15 places the MSA 2003 Cadet Championship! Or the all new Blade which is very good! With equipment like this it makes it so much more enjoyable to actually race! Which is of course all I wanted to do by this stage! I started to feel like I was hooked on crossing the finish line first!
I was fortunate again to be able to race with people that had so much passion about what they did, being with the Zip Young Guns, it was a great way to learn about my sport and that winning feeling!
After cadets I progressed to Yamaha, Jica and then to Formula A, where I was the Vice European Champion which inturn led me on to the realm of single-seater racing cars.
I was amazed at the difference in cost between karting and the traditional formulas such as Formula Ford. The budgets were absolutely sky high, and sponsorship is always hard to get.
We talked about improvements that could have been made for safety. On my Dads Super kart they had extended side-pods which stopped the wheels locking and flipping over, an experience you don't want to try, believe me! These also prevent damage to the car in other areas, thus saving your racing budget!
I eventually got the budget required to race in the FormulaFord Championship and progressed with..... speed!
However, it was about this time that the frustration hadgot to my Dad, who then set out to correct the problem, resulting in the birth of the Zip Formula! I wish I could have had something like this before racing Formula Ford.It basically answered all the questions and problems thatId faced in the Single-seater formula. The twomost important issues whilst at this stage are safety and budget, 2 elements that the Zip Formula excelled in.
I had always wanted to race Touring cars, but my dad said that I had to master a single-seater first, as it was so important for my future career. In 2002 I pretty much dominated the Southern Formula Ford Championship, winning 10 straight races and poles in our Zip Young Guns team.
It was now time for me to try my hand in a Tin-Top. 2003 was the first time I had ever raced front wheel drive.I raced with Mark Lemmers Barwell Motorsports Team in a Honda Civic "R". The team was fantastic, especailly my engineers Toby and Andy. They taught me everything, I loved every lap which was reflected in our domination of the Production Class Championship in my very first year. 18 straight podiums, 8 poles, it was fantastic -Thanks team!
My Dad's advice was right and after just 10 months in Tin-Tops I secured a BTCC seat with Vauxhall VXR along side Muller and Thompson. Testing in Albecete went brilliantly, as did my first works team year! 2004 brought me a double win at Brands Hatch and Snetterton with other podium finishes!
2005 brings with it a fantastic new opportunity driving with Seat! Interestingly enough I find myself drivingwith 2001 BTCC Champion Jason Plato who began his career the same as I did, racing with the Zip Kart Young Guns! So look out for some close racing action this year! I certainly feel that I'm gonna give this everything, and probably a bit more!

Latest 26 feb The shake down test at Road Atlanta went to plan for Bryce and Luke making some good times.
Im very happy with the car the team made some changes with the car after daytona witch improved the car a lot witch now im very conferdant for the Miami race
February 17, 2010-- Miller Barrett Racing will have two young, fast drivers behind the wheel of the No. 48 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car this season. Luke Hines of Essex, England, will join Bryce Miller of Summit, N.J., to contest the 11 upcoming races in the 2010 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series. Their GT-class Porsche will carry the colors of Marquis Jet, Grand Prix Racewear, IPC Systems and TOTAL Lubricants.
Hines and Miller were teammates in the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona on Jan. 30 and 31. That experience showed their compatibility as co-drivers, leading to the full-season agreement. Miller has raced at all the circuits on the schedule; Hines will drive each for the first time. They believe the combination of experience and fresh outlook will be effective.
"I am very pleased to have Luke Hines as my co-driver for the season. We worked well together at Daytona. He is a real professional in his approach and brings championship-winning experience to our effort," Miller said. "I think the biggest challenge for Luke will be learning all the tracks on our circuit here in the U.S., but he knows what needs to be done and we will support him to accomplish this the best we can."
Hines noted, "I've been used to having to pick up a track quickly and it will help having data from Bryce. More than anything, when you don't know a track, you rely on the data. And I've got the best driver to look at the data and the track with. I'm glad that I'll be racing with Miller Barrett Racing and I'm chuffed about racing with Bryce I think that we can cause some trouble! With the team pairing we've got and the team behind us, we've got an excellent chance of winning."
That team includes owners Paul Miller and Eric Barrett, crew chief Paul Caves and data engineer Mitchell Simmons. Their effort will be bolstered by the addition of race engineer Lee Penn, who joined the team this month. Hines and Penn have already won championships together in Europe.
"Whoever Lee Penn has worked with has always got big results," Hines said. "He's just as competitive as the drivers and that's big value for a team, especially a team that's run with racing fanatics who have racing in their blood. I think that's what makes this team different to a lot of the teams, and that will be another advantage."
Hines' career started with championships in karting and Formula Ford, then continued with a British Touring Car Championship production class title in 2003, team championship in 2004 and runner-up honors in 2006. In 2008, he finished second in the British GT Championship and notched a fifth-place prototype finish in the Petit Le Mans. He followed with a podium finish in his first Formula Le Mans race, in 2009. He has also competed in the FIA-GT Championship and the 24 Hours of Dubai.
Miller's resume includes a Rolex Series GT team championship, a string of victories and 22 class podium finishes, including the Rolex 24 At Daytona. He finished second in class, fifth overall in the Total 24 Hours of Spa last year. In his rookie Rolex Series season, 2007, he co-drove the race-winning championship GT car and just missed sharing the driver title because he was in a different car for the Rolex 24. He has wins in the Rolex Series, American Le Mans Series and IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge, all in Porsche cars.
